"The Secretary of the Treasury approved the reverse design for the coin after consultation with the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts and review by the Citizen's Coinage Advisory Committee."
I have to wonder how they fill the board of the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts... Maybe they had a sign-up sheet at the mall? Regardless, this penny is gross. The proportions are all wrong, the design is super bottom-heavy, and the shield is simplistic and makes the penny look like play money from a dollar-store set of pirate toys. Yuck. Plus what about the fact that you can no longer see lil' Abe in the Lincoln Memorial like you could on the old one?
