shitty mood

My guess is that these creatures also slept like crap last night, and woke up to an alarm far earlier than they were ready to at 6 this morning. I can totally empathize. I, too, have a furrowed brow and crossed arms today. I'm grumpy and agitated and think it's probably best if I stay clear of people until I've had some sleep... Grrrrr.

Small talk at work

Me: So guess what I found out my garage is full of?

Coworker: Pee?

Me: No, worse. Black Widows.

Coworker: Well you could always burn it down. That's what they did when Charlotte got to be a problem.

Me: I'm pretty sure that's not what happened.

E Pluribus Ugly

"The Secretary of the Treasury approved the reverse design for the coin after consultation with the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts and review by the Citizen's Coinage Advisory Committee."

I have to wonder how they fill the board of the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts... Maybe they had a sign-up sheet at the mall? Regardless, this penny is gross. The proportions are all wrong, the design is super bottom-heavy, and the shield is simplistic and makes the penny look like play money from a dollar-store set of pirate toys. Yuck. Plus what about the fact that you can no longer see lil' Abe in the Lincoln Memorial like you could on the old one?

hula bears

Benefits of Hula-Hooping*:

    Core Muscle Improvement

  1. Traditional hula hooping with the hoop around the waist builds strength in core muscles: abdominals, hip and lower back muscles.*
  2. Other Muscle Sculpting

  3. Using hoops on arms and legs sculptsbiceps, triceps, upper back, shoulders and thighs.*
  4. Burn Extra Calories

  5. Active hooping is an aerobic activity that will help burn extra calories.*
  6. Relieve Stress

  7. It's hard to be grumpy while concentrating on hula hooping. It's hard not to laugh while improving hooping skills. And exercise is known to be a healthy way to relieve stress.*

flocked flowers

This plant was amazing and totally foreign to me. The colors and textures were so much like fabric, and the unopened flowers were at least as beautiful as those that had bloomed... I guess some spider liked it too, and made himself at home in the stalks and blossoms- What a fantastic place to live...

weirdo clowns

Them there's all sorts of bendy torsos...

notes from a class

Chris is teaching a course about sound synthesis at the Machine Project in Echo Park. This past Saturday night I sat in on the third class of the series. My ability to grasp what he was teaching wavered in and out, and when things got a bit unclear I began drawing deer hooves, as I've been meaning to since coming across the bottom of a deer's leg the weekend before last, nestled in bark mulch in a landscaped flowerbed beside a carved wooden sign for a dermatology office.

After class Chris showed me the greenhouse of carnivorous plants in the Machine Project's basement, and then we went to eat fusion Korean food with some of his friends. Mmmm...

Maybe I will make a website. And then I will not be confined to the weird restrictions of this blog's templates. And the picture above can be the banner at the top of it.
